Get to know our founder, Anthony Hsieh

War Heroes on Water, or WHOW, was created in 2018 by Anthony Hsieh. Anthony is the founder and executive chairman of loanDepot, and also a lifelong angler and the owner and leader of Team Bad Company, a world-class, record-holding competitive sportfishing fleet. His best friend was a Veteran of the Vietnam War.

Anthony started WHOW confident that the joy he and fellow anglers found on the ocean could bring healing to the Veteran community. Since our initial tournament, Anthony has dedicated himself to bringing awareness to the needs of the Veteran community and, specifically, to the mental health crisis many returning heroes face every day.

WHOW has become the largest on-water combat-wounded Veteran therapeutic program of its kind in the country. It has directly served more than 425 Veterans and has provided ongoing services to thousands more. Anthony’s goal now is to ensure that the tournament continues to grow and serve even more Veterans. More than that, Anthony would like to see it continue for as long as it will bring meaningful relief and healing, and for it to become a lasting tribute to our country’s brave heroes and a legacy for everyone who makes it possible.

Today, Anthony’s vision is changing lives, setting Veterans on a path to healing and introducing them to a community that loves and supports them.
